Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University was formally inaugurated on March 20, 1965 by Late Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, the then Hon'ble Prime Minister of India. Another significant milestone was the inauguration of the building programme of the University by Late Smt Indira Gandhi, the then Hon'ble Prime Minister of India on June 23, 1966.
The University was renamed as Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) on November 7th 1996 in honour and memory of an outstanding Parliamentarian Acharya N.G. Ranga, who rendered remarkable selfless service for the cause of farmers and is regarded as an outstanding educationist, Kisan leader and freedom fighter.
Research programmes in ANGRAU are carried out to tackle location specific problems of different agro-climatic zones of the state of Andhra Pradesh. The changing agricultural scenario at state, national and global level, national policies and the changing socio-economic structure warrant restructuring and re-orientation of research programmes. The research programmes and activities are constantly and critically reviewed and each Research Station has been assigned priorities to make research user oriented and demand driven. To make the research activities monitor and assess on a real time basis in the university, new information technology platforms are designed for the first time and using effectively by creating ARMS portal.
ANGRAU Research Management System - ARMS is a prestigious and unique online research management portal of ANGRAU and custom designed for all the technical programmes of each and every scientists and enables the virtual monitoring ongoing and past research experiment including related technical programmes of the individual scientist in the university.
Dr.V.Damodara Naidu, Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor, ANGRAU launched "ARMS - ANGRAU Research Management System" Portal (www.angraurms.org) on 13 June, 2017 in RARS, Tirupati for online monitoring and assessment of entire research activities of all the research stations in the University. The ARMS portal was designed and developed by the visionary Dr.N.V.Naidu, Director of Research, ANGRAU and supported by Dr Kadiri Mohan, Scientist (Extension), RARS, Tirupati.
ARMS is a multi-level monitoring systems with a dashboard facility for each and every scientist of the university and which can be monitored by various levels of the research administration. The multi-tier online monitoring system includes individual scientist, Head of the Station (Station level), Associate Director of Research (Zonal level), Director of Research (University level) and Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor for regular assessment and virtual monitoring of ongoing experiments.
ARMS also enables all the scientists to upload all their ongoing research experiment and monthly updating progress of implementation of field and lab experiments/studies along with apt photographs and data recorded. ARMS further enables the archiving of individual scientists` research activities over a period of time and also entire university research system and can generate desired periodical reports.
ARMS was launch and now being currently operational since Kharif 2017 season in the University. Currently 270 research scientists are actively using and monitoring 1660 ongoing research experiments being conducted in 6 Agro-climatic zone and 36 research stations in the University spread across 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh. Apart from the monitoring ongoing research experiments in the entire university ARMS act as information sharing system for monthly assessment of various activities being attended by scientists like seed production, inputs production, externally funded projects assessment, minikits testing, technologies developed, reporting, human resource management and other aspects of all the scientists in the university.
